Chapter — · The true motto, for those who looked
Futue Diem
You came by a way the archive does not record.
You were told to cast the day away. That was the version for the Distracted, short enough to carve over a door. You looked closer than they did, so you will hear it the way the Arch-Hollow first said it, on the first afternoon, in the old tongue.
Futue Diem. Do not seize the day. Do not set it down gently. Tell it, clearly and without ceremony, exactly where it can go.
That is the entire inner teaching. There is no further secret. The robes, the Writs, the tote bags and the Recurrence are all very well, but this is what the Hollow See actually believes, and it fits on a mug.
You may wonder why the true motto is hidden. It is hidden because the Arch-Hollow’s mother has the link.
Go back out among the Distracted. Fill nothing. Pay promptly. And when the day comes to you wanting to matter, you will know what to say.
